This is a handmade porcelain doll with the traditional dress of the Meo or Mong
(H'mong) hilltribe of Thailand. It was made by Youthana Boonprakong and was
purchased from a craft store dealing in the finest of Thai handicrafts, under
the patronage of the queen.
From the description included with the doll:
The Meo usually call themselves "Mong". They are grouped as Meo-Lai, Meo-Kheo
and Meo-Khao. Most of this tribe adore freedom, so they live in many different
provinces in Thailand, among them are Chiangmai, Chiangrai and Petchabun.
The Meo settle on high mountains. Their houses are built on the ground. Bamboo
is for walls and grass for thatched roofs. In Meo society, seniors are its core
and are respectd among society members.
