This is a covered bowl made in Sawangkalok which is located in central Thailand. The area was settled back
during the Sukhothai period (14th - 15th centuries, A.D.) and quickly became a center for high quality ceramics. Today the items are decorated with
some of the same patterns that were developed during that time period, and this is an example. It is approximately 2 1/2" across and has a matte glaze
over a light terra cotta clay. The Thai use these boxes to store small items such as jewelry It should be used only for decorative purposes.
