This is a bowl made in Sawangkalok which is located in central Thailand. The area was settled back
during the Sukhothai period (14th - 15th centuries, A.D.) and quickly became a center for high quality ceramics. Today the items are decorated with
some of the same patterns that were developed during that time period, and this is an example. It is approximately 4 7/8" across and has a matte glaze
over a light terra cotta clay. Though the Thai do use these items for food, it is not marked "lead free" and I have not made an effort to test it for
food safety. It should be used only for decorative purposes.
