trefoil

This carving in high relief is drawn from the gothic style of carving in the Middle Ages of England. Traditionally carvings such as this were in stone and adorned the pediments of columns or were on borders. Often they were carved in alternating directions or were expanded to three groups of three, etc. as necessary to fill a space. It is carved in American black walnut, approximately 5" x 8".
