Architectural and Ornamental Carvings John Pierce 9/26/02

This mantel was carved from walnut. It is approximately 5 feet long and 8 inches wide. The moulding across the face is traditional egg and dart with the eggs wrapped in acanthus leaves. All mouldings were initially shaped with hand planes, some of which are my unique design. The corbels have lions, acanthus leaves, scrolls and thistles. They were made from four inch stock.
